City Tour in Altos de Chavón

Altos de Chavón is a 16th century Mediterranean-style village. It was opened to visitors in 1982 with a ceremonial performance by Frank Sinatra. Since then, numerous world-famous artists have performed at the 5000-seat, outdoor, Greek-style amphitheater. The village is a delightful trip destination today because of its medieval charm, architecture, numerous cigar, clothing, and jewelry stores, restaurants, bars, and artisan shops. Its centerpiece, the St. Stanislaus Church, is a popular wedding venue in the Dominican Republic, with a unique view of the Chavón River. The Altos de Chavón Archaeological Museum houses one of the most comprehensive collections of the native culture in the Dominican Republic.
